There is hope for Alba

Alba and Luna, two beautiful foster cats are home and I hope to make them happy. How you handle the first day can determine the course of a cats rehabilitation. Your home smells of you so make them comfortable with you and they will be more comfortable in your home.

I choose the downstairs bathroom to release Luna and Alba: it’s small and has their litter tray on hand. I leave them for a while, returning intermittently to talk softly so they get used to me.

Luna comes out within 20 minutes enticed by food. After eating, she tours the bathroom, sniffing every corner and edge, rubbing against my legs as she passes. She lets me stroke her and seems very friendly.

Alba on the other hand stays in her carrier, vigilant to my movement.

After a little break, I find Luna and Alba in the carrier together. Given a fleece blanket on the floor, Luna comes straight out and snuggles with me.

Alba isn’t interested in her wet food but I give her some cat biscuits in her carrier and she eats them. I get that buzz of electricity and butterflies in my tummy. Seeing Alba eat is a moment that the volunteers at the rescue centre have been hoping for, and we now know there is hope for her.

After a few hours I return to see how they are getting on and to put more food down. They both come out and start eating. I’m in love with the fluffy creatures. Alba lets me stroke her and turns out to be the first to explore the house. Luna would rather stay and have cuddles.

I am optimistic for both of them. I hope they will be adoptable!
